England U21s Win European Championship

England have ended their 39-year wait to lift the Under-21 European Championship title with a dramatic 1-0 final win over Spain.

James Trafford made an injury-time penalty save to ensure Curtis Jones' deflected goal was enough to seal victory for the Young Lions.

England's Under-21s are champions of Europe following a dramatic 1-0 victory over Spain in the final of the UEFA Under-21 European Championship in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

It is the first time that England have won the Under-21 European Championship since 1984, when they beat Spain 1-0 in the final in extra-time.

England started the game brightly and created a number of chances in the opening stages. However, it was Spain who came closest to scoring in the first half when Bryan Gil hit the post with a curling shot.

England took the lead in the 53rd minute when Jones' shot from the edge of the box deflected off a Spanish defender and into the net.

Spain pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages and were awarded a penalty in injury time after Callum Doyle was adjudged to have fouled Alejandro Baena.

However, Trafford produced a superb save to deny Sergio Gomez and secure the win for England.
